It was difficult to know who was having a better time on Saturday … the runners, the bicyclists, cheering relatives, or the photographers. Those of us carrying heavy camera gear in the July heat may not have shown it on our faces, but we were excited to attend and document the 6th Annual CycleFest event in downtown Lodi.
The target-rich environment kept us moving from street corner to street corner and vantage point to vantage point. One minute … bursts of rapid-fire pictures of colorful riders traveling at 30 miles per hour … presentation stand poses next … followed by crowd expressions. And if that wasn’t enough to keep us busy, two crashes (with minor injuries) at the corner of School and Oak, inattentive pedestrians crossing streets in front of speeding bikes, and an air pump failure of the arching Michael-David Winery balloon during the feature race added to the day’s drama and kept things interesting.
