I really didn’t know what to expect as I entered the Grape Bowl last Saturday to photograph Lodi’s 1st Annual Powder Puff Football Game featuring the Lodi Jr. Flames vs. the Tokay Jr. Tigers. Perhaps the best way to describe the scene is to compare it with typical high school football.
First, the players were all cute and didn’t sweat. The boys were also very cute and wore tutu’s. The girls executed like real pro’s with sophisticated offensive and defensive plays. The boy’s danced, cheered and carried on like boys when they get to dress up like their sisters. It was a “group” thing for the boys since few would have had the nerve without fellow support. The girls, on the other hand, brought a special femininity to the gridiron as they blocked, snatched flags, and ran for their lives with delightful daintiness . All the while, proud parents and supporters rooted enthusiastically as if the 49’ers had come to town.
