There’s no debate … jocks get the most attention in high school. We can’t resist the special jackets, large venues, screaming fans, the pageantry of a coronation and bleached hair. All good stuff for a photographer.
But when I read that Lodi High was having a judged debate tournament, a different part of my brain lit up and told me I had to be there. I wasn’t disappointed. While photographs were not allowed during student performances, there was plenty of action in the library as the staff and referees prepared the field.
The excitement was palpable as debaters ran to their respective positions in full uniform … ready and able to promote, refute and advocate for the devil. Some even wore specially designed headgear and displayed unique, sportsmanlike greeting behaviors.
