In association with “Tree Lodi” and the City of Lodi, volunteers gathered this morning to plant 170 trees in DeBenedetti Park. This was the first of two events that will see a total of 280 trees planted by Arbor Day, April 7th, 2012. The event featured a Volunteer booth, First Aid station, a local Boy Scout troop and barbecue lunch. For more information regarding future tree plantings, visit treelodi.org

I don’t understand why Tree Lodi continues to plant trees for the city of Lodi and LUSD while the city of Lodi is cutting down some forty Modesto ash trees and countless others around town because they lack the funds to care for those trees and have no city workers left to maintain these new trees. Who will care for them after three years? Tree Lodi should concentrate their endeavors on beautifying the eastside of Lodi and quit worrying about the parks, schools and the main routes to downtown Lodi, and let the city of Lodi take the financial burden and maintenance like they always used to.
