Biker Buddies to the Rescue

“John” Fernandes Pitta, a well known and loved Lodi resident, rides tall today because good friends and a local business came to his aid.

Born with cerebral palsy, John’s primary form of transportation has been stolen 6 times in the past 25 years.  In spite of a strong chain and lock, bike thieves struck once again a few weeks ago during “Bingo”.

John's FriendsJohn’s routine includes meeting for breakfast several times a week with friends at McDonald’s on Lodi Avenue.  Those friends, who include Ray and Doris Shates, Lloyd Joachin, Ira Wilkerson, Wayne Stenberg, Dolly Kamerer, Pat Barnes, J.R. Bowman, and Bob Raingruber, pitched in what they could to replace the bike.  Coming up short by $80 for the $400 purchase, City Bicycles on Ham Lane made up the difference and delivered a shiny new three wheeler.

Always appreciative and good humored, John can once again be seen pedaling around Lodi … thanks to his “Biker Buddies”.
